First Smartphone with 1GHZ Processor (w/ Video)

(PhysOrg.com) -- Looks like the Apple iPhone 3G S may soon have some serious competition with the soon to be announced, Toshiba TG01 smartphone. The TG01 is expected to be officially announced at the Mobile World Congress Expo later this month in Barcelona.
The Toshiba TG01 with be the first smartphone to run on a Qualcomm 1GHz processor (T-Snapdragon QSD8250 chip set). The Snapdragon chip set makes the phone run faster than other smartphones, and is designed to effectively manage power and extend battery life.
By comparison, the BlackBerry Bold features a 624 MHz CPU and 128 MB of RAM and is by far the fastest smartphone so far. The new Palm Pre and Apple iPhone 3G S both have a 600 MHz CPU and 256 MB of RAM and soon will have Toshiba's TG01 mobile phone to compete with.
At this time there are limited details on all the specifications of the TG01. What we do know is that there's a limited amount of internal memory, however the phone does offer a microSD expansion slot for up to 32GB of memory. The TG01 will support GPS, Wi-Fi and HSDPA 3G connectivity.
The TG01 is only 0.39 inches thick, compared to the iPhone's 0.48 inch depth. The VGA touchscreen display is 4.1-inches wide with 800-by-480 resolution; the iPhone's screen has a resolution of 480-by-320.
The TG01 will run a modified version of Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.1 with a new graphical interface. There will also be full support for Flash that will allow users to watch web base Flash videos.
It's not known at this time what wireless carriers will be offering the TG01. And there is no information on the price although rumors place the phone in the same price range as the iPhone 3G.
