NASA assigns crew for shuttle mission
NASA has assigned crew members to the space shuttle flight that will launch an Italian-built U.S. module for the International Space Station.
Air Force Col. Pamela Melroy of Palo Alto, Calif., will command the STS-120 mission to take the connecting module to the orbiting space station. Melroy, a veteran shuttle pilot, is the second woman to command a shuttle mission.
Marine Corps Col. George Zamka of Jersey City, N.J., will serve as pilot, with Scott Parazynski of Evergreen, Colo., Army Col. Douglas Wheelock of Windsor, N.Y., Navy Capt. Michael Foreman of Wadwworth, Ohio, and Paolo Nespoli, a European Space Agency astronaut from Milan, Italy, serving as mission specialists.
Zamka, Wheelock, Foreman and Nespoli will be making their first spaceflight. STS-120 will be Melroy's third shuttle flight.
No launch date has been announced for the mission.
